8 Quick Makeup Steps

30 Jan

I recently attended an event at Saks Fifth Avenue hosted by Trish McEvoy makeup artists. The title was “Makeup of a Confident Woman.” Makeup artist Nick Capezza chose someone from the audience to participate. (Her name was Carla!)

Here’s a photo of Carla (above). It literally took him less than 10 minutes to apply this effortless, natural look. Of course, there are 8 easy steps — 5 steps for skincare, 8 steps for makeup application. Hmm. I guess that adds up to 13. But, 8 steps are makeup!

Nick has outlined them below. Of course, all the products are by Trish. But, of course, you can go to your makeup bag or bags and use what you have.

The power of skincare steps:
1)cleanse: am and pm with Cleansing Water or Gentle Cleansing Wash
2)exfoliate: Beta Hydroxy Daily Exfoliator Pads, or the Correct and Brighten Professional Strength  Multi-Acid Weekly Peel
3)treat: Beauty Booster Face and Beauty Booster Eye Serums
4)protect: Beauty Booster Cream SPF 30
5)correct: Beauty Booster Advanced Retinol Eye Cream, and (pm)Even Skin Vitamin C Cream

The 8 step makeup lesson:
1)Brighten the eyelid: using Trish’s Eye Base Essential
2)Define the lash line: using Trish’s Intense Gel Eyeliner,  using the tight-line technique and apply your eyeshadows
3)Enhance your lashes: with Trish’s Tubular High Volume, or Lash Curling Mascaras
4)Brighten Under Your Eyes: with Trish’s Triangle of Light Technique using Instant Eye Lift.
5)Even the skin: Use your favorite Trish foundation and concealer to perfect and even the skin with your favorite foundation brush. Set with translucent set powder.
6)Face Color: apply Bronzer, Highlight and Blush. Blend with a whisper of translucent set powder.
7)Enhance Your Brow: define your brow with Trish’s brow enhancers.
8)Enhance your lips: Apply Flawless Lip Primer and press into the lip line. Follow with  your lip liner, color and gloss.

Some extra makeup tips:
With the eye liner, taper and blender like windshield wiper
The fan brush works wonders for blending.
Eyebrow maintenance is a must.

Shopping for a Cause: Breast Cancer

23 Oct

October is breast cancer awareness month, but for women it’s everyday. Many of our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends have it. The statistics are staggering: About 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer. (link)

Saks Fifth Avenue and the Women’s Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) team up  for the 2017 Key to the Cure Campaign and create a T-shirt worn by a celebrity. Jennifer Lopez wears this year’s Missoni designed shirt. Here’s my purchase below, along with a jar of granola from Laurie’s Pantry. I bought the granola at my local green market. I love how retailers large and small are donating to breast cancer.

Last year, I reposted Kelly’s picks from her blog Sparkles and Shoes. Here they are again. She does a great job of finding special products.

ONEHOPE Pink Glitter Edition California Chardonnay $59 |  ONEHOPE works with Gateway for Cancer Research, and every two bottles sold funds a clinical trial for a woman with breast cancer.

Ralph Lauren Tender Romance Pink Pony Eau de Parfum Limited Edition $96 | 100 percent of the profits from this limited-edition version of RL’s classic scent will be donated to the Pink Pony Fund.

Sigma Beauty PInk F80 Flat Kabuki Brush  $25 |   Sigma is donating 20 percent of the profits from this brush to Bright Pink.

Bumble and Bumble Pink Ribbon Bb.Thickening Spray $29 |  In support of The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign, Bumble and bumble is donating 20 percent of the proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Athleta Power of She Bra $54 |  Twelve percent of sales from this bra will be donated to Recovery on Water (ROW), an organization and rowing team that empowers women with breast cancer to connect with other survivors and “become active in their recovery.”

Privé Revaux The Escobar $30 | 50 percent of proceeds of all four pink BCA sunglasses go to Susan G. Komen Foundation.

La Mer The Breast Cancer Campaign Crème de La Mer  $85 |  Until December 31st, La Mer is donating $10 from each sale of its limited-edition cult-favorite moisturizer to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Beautyblender Bubble  $20 |  For the entire month, 50% of the proceeds of the original and mini makeup sponges will support breast cancer patients through the Good Feel Better Foundation.

BEN2304_FINAL LOGO KTTC Committee

Key to the Cure is a nationwide four-day charity shopping event at Saks Fifth Avenue. Saks partners with local breast cancer research teams for a kickoff party with plenty of  food, fashion and makeup. The kick off party is not to be missed. It’s the perfect girls night out.

This year I’m part of the Key to the Cure 2015 committee (see photo above by Tracey Benson Photography) that benefits the Comprehensive Cancer Program at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida. Since the event is nationwide, google your city and Key to the Cure to find your event.

In my location, the host to Key To The Cure is Michael DeSio, Vice President General Manager of the Palm Beach Gardens Saks. (He is guy in the photo.) The Palm Beach Gardens’ 17th Annual Key To The Cure event is on Wednesday, October 14. For more information call The JMC Foundation Office 561-263-5728 or register online at the Jupiter Medical Foundation.

Motowners, the event in Detroit is Thursday Oct. 15. Ina Levinson is the the Vice President General Manger at the Somerset Saks. For more information, visit this site.

Every year a fashion designer creates a unique T-shirt modeled by a celebrity. This year the designer is Jason Wu and the celebrity ambassador is Julianne Moore. This photo is in the new Saks catalog, and the T-shirt can be purchased.

This is a great cause and a great event!

Spring Trends: Florals, Fringe and more

28 Feb

Image-1

Saks Fifth Avenue in Troy, Mich. recently held a “Dress for Success” event for the Women’s Employee Resource Network of Beaumont Health System. More than 100 employees attended the interactive event which featured mini-makeovers and spring trends. For the working women, we all learned a great tip — put a stylish clutch inside your workbag for transitioning from the office to an evening event. There are some investment pieces that should be in everyone’s closet — a simple black dress and a leather jacket. One can easily change the look with a scarf or necklace. Top spring 2015 trends include: fringe, florals, suede and an athletic chic look. One staple in the beauty department is the Advanced Night Repair by Estee Lauder.

I’ve featured some of the trends above and my colleagues at Beaumont Health System.

Special thanks to Ina Levinson and Maureen Conway at Saks.

The Right Fit

Men step aside. This posting is about bras. Today I got fitted for a bra by an expert from Wacoal. I attended a girls night out party at Saks Fifth Avenue. My girlfriend, Adrienne Ruby Fink, hosted the event. At a recent charity benefit, Adrienne bid on this “just for girls” soiree.

Well, I can’t  remember  the last time I got fitted for a bra, and wow what a difference. As the Wacoal representative Jan Taylor explained, “The girls look perky when you have the right fit.” She did a superb job in making me look good. “The most important thing is having the bra complement the figure,” she noted. Taylor also said that the band of the bra should be secure around the rib cage. Wacoal’s most popular bra is the one above — the awareness bra.

Wacoal is participating in a terrific event — Fit for the Cure where they will donate dollars for breast cancer research.

Try one on!
