I saw your comment about Bookbeat in the Freep. It is a great store. I grew up in Oak Park and went to Lincoln Center a million times it seems. I moved in 1980 to Chicago, and then in 1986 to KC, where I still am. I went back in January, unfortunately because of the passing of my cousin Minda. A few days after Minda’s service, my cousin Marcia (Minda’s sister) held the Bat Mitzvah of her daughter Yaira at Beth Shalom. Marcia lives in California, but planned Yaira’s Bat Mitzvah in Michigan in the summer due Minda’s health. Minda passed just one week before Yaira’s Bat Mitzvah, and told Marcia a few days earlier to go ahead with the Bat Mitzvah. Sadness and joy. My daughter, who also came in from Boston (she just moved to San Francisco) asked to go to Bookbeat, knowing what a great bookstore it is. I found lots if books about Detroit and related topics. I couldn’t get them all, so I picked one called “Belle Isle To 8 Mile: An Insider’s Guide to DETROIT” by Andy, Emily and Rob Linn (I just opened it and there is BookBeat bookmaker right inside – it feels even more special now). I look forward to reading your blog post about BookBeat, and future posts as well. Best, Steve
