Fresh Peach Oatmeal Muffin Cups

19 Aug

A healthy, delicious muffin — no oil, no sugar and no flour!

Fresh Peach Oatmeal Muffins

Glorious fresh peaches are the star here.

Rolled oats, bananas, and applesauce combined with juicy peaches create these very portable little muffin cups. I’ve fallen in love with them, and have been making a batch or two weekly.

Here’s the bonus – NO sugar, flour, or oil. Yes, this is good, good stuff.

These are lovely warm from the oven, and perfect for breakfast, of course, but I think they’re an ideal afternoon snack as well.

When fresh peaches are not in season, frozen peaches work great. Fresh or frozen blueberries or/and cherries are a delicious swap, too.

One more thing…I recently purchased a silicone muffin pan to eliminate the need for so many parchment paper liners. If you’re on the fence (as I was), I can report that I’m very pleased with how well it performs. If you don’t have one, no problem. Just use paper liners instead.

Workout aficionados, yoga devotees and women everywhere, there’s a new bra in town. Elyse Kaye, a former Motowner, is founder and CEO of Bloom Bras. Kaye enlisted the help of celebrity corset designer Camilla Huey to develop a patented design to make an adjustable and comfortable bra. Kaye just launched on Kickstarter to lift this company to new heights.  Not only does Kaye have the entrepreneurial spirit, but she is philanthropic as well. Some of the proceeds will go to breast cancer research. Look at all the support (pun intended) and check out this unique design.

Motivational Muscle

Itzler_LivingWithASeal_HC

Entrepreneur Jesse Itzler has a magnetic personality and a motivational spirit. I recently had the opportunity to listen to him for two minutes, and I was mesmerized. He was with 250 authors in New York pitching books to the Jewish Book Council. He was a stand out explaining his book Living with a SEAL, within the strict two minute time slot.

Jesse lived with a SEAL (yes, a Navy SEAL) to develop a challenging health and fitness regime. There was one condition: Jesse had to agree to do everything the SEAL demanded. So, Jesse trained for 31 days. The subtitle of the book is 31 Days Training with the Toughest Man on the Planet, which included running miles wearing a 50-pound vest, jumping into a frozen lake and training all hours of the day and night.

Physically, Jesse is now in terrific shape, and his book recounts this journey with determination, grit and humor. Add author to his business accomplishments — owner of the Atlanta Hawks, co-founder of Marquis Jets and pioneering the coconut water craze with Zicos acquired by Coca-Cola. Oh, did I mention he was a rapper and music producer too? And of course his personal accomplishments are amazing also. He is married to Sara Blakely, Spanx founder, and they have four children.

Elegant and Wearable Handbags

13 May

Daniella Ortiz‘s sophisticated boutique can be found in a via on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach.  (That means it’s off the main road nestled in a courtyard.) Her handbags are stunning and colorful. Although Ortiz lives in the Palm Beach area, she is from Argentina where her innovative design team works. Ortiz participates in the Palm Beach charity circuit attending more than 60 events a season and donates some of the profits from her trunk shows.

So, I just purchased the powder blue handbag in the photo. I’ve been looking for an elegant purse, but one that has easy access compartments to hold my cell phone and keys. What’s your favorite handbag this season?

Motown Home Pops With Color

16 Apr

This Motown home makes a bold statement. It’s featured in the May 2016 issue of Traditional Home magazine in a story written by Khristi Zimmeth. The interior designer is Corey Damen Jenkins.

“Taking cues both from Courtney’s closet (the owner) and from the fashion runway, Jenkins presented a combination of bold hues and modern choices juxtaposed against a traditional backdrop,” writes Zimmeth.  The emerald green color choice adds elegance and richness to this 1939 historic home, located in a Detroit suburb. This settee in the parlor invites guests.

Although the home is traditional glam, I love that these kitchen chairs (below) are from Pier One.

There’s a wonderful mix of unexpected fabrics, textures and hues.

Irresistible Italian Ceramicware

11 Apr

Image-1

I recently had the opportunity to meet Susan Gravely, founder and CEO, of Vietri. She was autographing her handcrafted Italian tableware at the retail store T is for Table in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. I have a set of colorful bowls shown in the photo above.

Vietri is a family-owned business and one of the largest importer of handcrafted Italian tableware. Gravely is one of three sisters, and their business story began more than 30 years ago when they visited the Amalfi coast and met Italian artisans. Their designs range from traditional to whimsical to holiday.

“Our mission today remains the same as it was over 30 years ago: to inspire the celebration of life with family and friends through the joy of handcrafted Italian designs for the table, home and garden.”

Forever Style

Style has no age. Just check out the book Advanced Style by Ari Seth Cohen. Cohen chronicles several seniors of a certain age who are stylish, creative and wise. As he states on his website, he roams the streets of New York looking for the most stylish older folks. I had the opportunity to see the documentary Advanced Style: A Fashionable Film based on the book. I also met one of the stars, Debra Rapoport. (below)

Debra’s fabulous hat and colorful style are unique.  Debra is just a snapshot of Cohen’s keen eye.

His blog features superb photographs reminiscent of Bill Cunningham from the New York Times.

As Cohen states on his blog, “Advanced Style offers proof from the wise and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age.”
