The Social D Debuts

15 Feb

There’s a new website in motown, and Neiman Marcus in Troy, Mich.  celebrated its debut with a fashionable bash.  My friend and colleague, Chuck Bennett, unveiled his lifestyle blog —The Social D, designed by Martin LeFlore.  Chuck is well known in the media as a fashion guru and party scene stealer. His words are as melodious as the sounds of Ben Sharkey and Kimmie Horne who performed at the party. From leather to fur, from hot colors to minimal hues, the fashions were fabulous. Philanthropist Danialle Karmanos (top left) and DKWIO founder introduced Chuck as “the godfather of Detroit.” Need we say more?

Mochachino Nails?

26 Jan

Mochachino is a tasty drink, but it’s also a gourmet nail polish by Essie. I noticed the color on my friend’s hands the other day.

My friend, Robin Schwartz, spiced the look up by adding glitter. Robin is the weekend anchor at Fox2 Detroit  with beautiful nails and a winning smile.  She’s also an insightful reporter.

I just love the colorful nail polishes and the names are fun too.

Some favorite Essie colors are: guilty pleasures, bikini so teeny, prima ballerina and adore-a-ball!  What’s your favorite nail polish?

Motown fashionistas celebrated the 20th anniversary of  the boutique Tender in Birmingham, Mich. Sisters Cheryl and Karen Daskas have an eye for style in shoes, handbags, jewelry and women’s apparel. They introduce emerging and established designers with panache. The story carries all the exclusive designers like Miu Miu, Lanvin and Jason Wu. But, I love it when they introduce an upcoming young designer who is featured the very next month in Vogue magazine. Here are some snapshots from their anniversary party held on Nov. 20th at the store.

Lolly Ella Jewelry and Luke Song will pair an exotic hat with a statement piece of jewelry perfect for the holiday celebrations. This event takes place Thursday, Nov. 21 beginning at 4 p.m., but internet shopping is available at both stores.

At the Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, Mich., I stumbled upon an elegant store — Carlo Pazolini. There is a wide variety of shoes for men and women as well as handbags and accessories.  The leather is soft and sumptuous, and the styles are exquisite. The store will be expanding in the U.S., but has more than 150 locations in Europe. According to the Carlo Pazolini website the company began in 1990 when the Carlo Pazolini trademark was registered in Italy. Check out the website design at Carlo Pazolini — that’s beautiful too!

Have you been to Shinola to see the fabulous watches and bicycles? I have not been there yet, but the buzz is extraordinary. The products look fantastic. In today’s New York Times, the advertisement is eye catching with the tag line “Someday they’ll call Geneva the Detroit of Switzerland.”

Let me know if have a Shinola watch yet or have seen the stores in either New York or Detroit?

Channeling Downton Abbey

28 Jun

securedownloadsecuredownload-1Unknownimages

The other night some members of my book club group attended a Downton Abbey party where a representative of PBS told us about the upcoming fourth season, and we had a lecture about the some beautiful British estates. Many of the attendees dressed in costume. Everyone thought Christine (top, right) looked exactly like the character Anna. We learned that one new character on the popular TV series will be played by Paul Giamatti. Art historian Wendy Evans presented the lecture on the treasure houses of Britain and told us many interesting facts including that Highclere castle (home of Downton Abbey) and the Parliament were designed by the same architect, Charles Barry.
