On Friday, Jan. 10, I took the oath as President of the Greater West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce. West Bloomfield is a beautiful suburb near Detroit filled with lakes, parks and wildlife. It was a very special day especially since my friend, Monica Gayle (left), Evening News Anchor of Fox2 Detroit introduced me and was the master of ceremonies. The Chamber has more than 200 business members, and our mission is to grow business in the area, while promoting the community. Not only did my colleagues attend along with dignitaries in the Township, but many of my girlfriends supported me as well. Looking forward to 2014, and a special shout out to girlfriends everywhere!
As Time Goes By
31 DecI hope you are all celebrating the end of 2013 and the start of a New Year. I love interesting table settings and tablescapes. Check out www.betweennapsontheporch.net where the blogger used vintage clocks to set a stunning table. Happy New Year to all!
Glazed & Infused in Chi Town
27 DecOn my recent visit to the windy city, I stumbled upon a delicious doughnut shop — Glazed & Infused. They were scrumptious, and the flavors were divine. Red velvet, vanilla brulee and banana chocolate chip are just a few. The most popular is the the maple bacon long john. Do you prefer cupcakes or doughnuts? If it’s glazed, go with the doughnuts.
Chocolate Saltine Toffee aka Christmas Crack
24 DecMy colleague brought this to our holiday pot luck. It was delicious! I can’t wait to make it for more holidays and just change the toppings.
Are you sick of cookies yet? Wait, is that even possible? I really don’t think so. I know that I could NEVER get sick of cookies. But in case you are, I have a non-cookie Christmas dessert recipe for you. It is called Christmas Crack, aka Chocolate Saltine Toffee. Why is it called Christmas crack? Because you can’t stop eating the stuff! It is sooo good. I don’t know why I did this to myself. I love toffee, so naturally I haven’t been able to stop eating this since I made it. I finally had to hide it in the back corner of my freezer. Let’s hope I forget it is there today!

A Toy Story in Motown
13 DecMotown has some unique toy stores. The pop-up store Spielhaus in Detroit is a great example. Dad Kurt Spiels, a former engineer and high school science teacher, knows which toys teach. From imported toys to homegrown finds, there is something for all ages. Spielhaus is part of Hatch Detroit. The store is currently located at 1249 Woodward, but Spiels is looking for a permanent home.
Huffington Post Detroit has a fabulous write-up of Motown toy stores including one of my favorites — Toyology in West Bloomfield.

Domino’s Back
2 DecWhen Motowners think of Domino’s, we mean pizza. As a former magazine editor, I’m referring to the rebirth of the Domino magazine. The new editor is Michelle Adams, a Michigan State alum, and as she says, she is in charge of bringing this publication back to life. At a hefty price tag of $11.99 that will be a challenge, but the magazine is fresh. The features are fun and informative, and readers are enticed to purchase the objects featured on the Domino website.
I enjoyed the feature on nesting with Lucky magazine Editor Eva Chen. Here are some photos of her New York office.
Other notable articles include “How to throw a Cocktail Party in under one hour,” and Coco Chanel’s Paris apartment.
Blogger Meg Biram also wrote about Domino and reviewed the issue.
I’m intrigued that there are very few advertisements. I’m looking forward to the next issue.

A Tender Moment
21 NovMotown fashionistas celebrated the 20th anniversary of the boutique Tender in Birmingham, Mich. Sisters Cheryl and Karen Daskas have an eye for style in shoes, handbags, jewelry and women’s apparel. They introduce emerging and established designers with panache. The story carries all the exclusive designers like Miu Miu, Lanvin and Jason Wu. But, I love it when they introduce an upcoming young designer who is featured the very next month in Vogue magazine. Here are some snapshots from their anniversary party held on Nov. 20th at the store.

Here’s Hillary
16 NovI had the opportunity to meet Hillary Clinton (left) at a Beaumont Foundation event last week. On the right she is speaking with Florine Ministrelli the benefactor of the Ministrelli Women’s Heart Center at Beaumont Health System. Politics aside, it was quite thrilling to meet her. She gave a wonderful speech to the philanthropic group. When I met her I said one phrase “2016,” and she replied, “Thank you.”
