Toronto Reds

It’s not a sports team. It’s a casually chic restaurant in downtown Toronto. The Midtown Reds Tavern has exposed brick walls, wine bottle chandeliers and even a shuffle board. The unique atmosphere and delicious decor is worth visiting.

Domino’s Back

2 Dec

o_524b40e89ac35fe44a3aff0c

When Motowners think of Domino’s, we mean pizza. As a former magazine editor, I’m referring to the rebirth of the Domino magazine. The new editor is Michelle Adams, a Michigan State alum, and as she says, she is in charge of bringing this publication back to life. At a hefty price tag of $11.99 that will be a challenge, but the magazine is fresh. The features are fun and informative, and readers are enticed to purchase the objects featured on the Domino website.

I enjoyed the feature on nesting with Lucky magazine Editor Eva Chen. Here are some photos of her New York office.

Other notable articles include “How to throw a Cocktail Party in under one hour,” and Coco Chanel’s Paris apartment.

Blogger Meg Biram also wrote about Domino and reviewed the issue.

I’m intrigued that there are very few advertisements.  I’m looking forward to the next issue.

Detroit Designer: Dominic Pangborn

Dominic Pangborn designs are dynamic, bold and original. Wear a scarf or a necktie, and you will be stopped on the street with compliments from strangers — even in New York. I know because I have a few scarves. Dominic is a talented and passionate Detroit designer with an international flair. The swirl of colors or geometric patterns are dazzling. You’ll find his designs at the Detroit Metro Airport and now in the Michigan Design Center in Troy, which is open to the public. In his latest interview on Fox2, he says he will expand his accessories and home products. His personal journey as a Korean adoptee is just as fascinating as his artistry.

Detroit home

The spring 2013 issue of Detroit Home magazine features this year’s design awards.

It’s a treasure trove of information. The categories are expansive — from custom cabinets to railings to the use of antiques. You will find exteriors, interiors and even organized garages. In addition to showcasing the most talented people in the city, I particularly enjoyed reading about a new designer. Detroit Home honored Anne Strickland (above) with the “Rising Star” award. This creative 28-year-old is a  Cranbrook and Michigan State grad and the owner of Port Manufacturing & Design. She designs furniture as well as interiors. Not only are her designs divine, but she has a personal flair exuded in her blog — http://www.portmfg.com/category/blog/
