The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, recently wore a blue fitted dress.   The dress is named the Detroit dress and is from LK Bennett, a London clothier with many stores in the U. S. Kate always looks stunning. There is a site chronicling her fashions — whatkatewore.com and you can see her wearing this dress in many photos.

The Detroit Free Press reported this as well and noted that the dress sells for $395. The dress from the LK Bennett website is below.

The Social D Debuts

There’s a new website in motown, and Neiman Marcus in Troy, Mich.  celebrated its debut with a fashionable bash.  My friend and colleague, Chuck Bennett, unveiled his lifestyle blog —The Social D, designed by Martin LeFlore.  Chuck is well known in the media as a fashion guru and party scene stealer. His words are as melodious as the sounds of Ben Sharkey and Kimmie Horne who performed at the party. From leather to fur, from hot colors to minimal hues, the fashions were fabulous. Philanthropist Danialle Karmanos (top left) and DKWIO founder introduced Chuck as “the godfather of Detroit.” Need we say more?

An Eye For Style

Jewelry designers Cathy Schwartz (right) and Beth Banker recently held a trunk show at Tender in downtown Birmingham. The two business partners and friends met several years ago in New York when Banker noticed that Schwartz had a fabulous handbag. “She has an eye for style,” said Banker. The two combined their talents and created CatherineBeth Jewelry. Banker and Schwartz both describe their collection as “edgy and sophisticated.” The collection incorporates precious and semi- precious jewels, metal, brass, wood and leather. Vintage pieces add to the eclectic look.  They sell their line at private sales and boutiques. Just recently Schwartz moved back home to Birmingham. “I’m happy to be home; it’s a great place to raise children,” said Schwartz.

Barbara Boz sells her jewelry all over the world, but you can say hi to her and talk treasures in downtown Birmingham, Michigan. Her eponymous boutique is tucked on Maple Road  just east of Panera. Her unique pieces are truly special. They are sold in more than 350 stores worldwide — from Dubai  to Motown. In addition to the signature gold link necklaces, she has some designs with antique pieces. All are perfect for layering. Let’s not forget her collection of stones. Urban chic and sophisticated is how Boz describes her jewelry lines. She also has a store in Harbor Springs, living near the shores of Lake Michigan in the summer. Of course, she has experimented with Petoskey stones. Boz is a transplant from Pittsburgh and fell in love with Detroit. Yes, she loves the people here! “I have the best customers in the world, and they glow about what I’m doing,” she says. “They walk out feeling they have a treasure.” Indeed. If you purchase and wear a Barbara Boz original, you’re in good company. Oprah wore Barbara’s bangles on a former cover of  O magazine.

AIDS Walk Detroit held their thank you party for all walkers, volunteers and fundraisers who participated in the 2012 event at the Farmers Market in Royal Oak. The walk raised more than $200,000 to promote HIV prevention, education and services for those living with HIV/AIDS. Leon and Lulu, an eclectic boutique in Clawson, hosted the event. These charity events are de rigueur for this fascinating emporium. Leon and Lulu is the ultimate shopping experience for men, women, children and adults. There is something for everyone. From the $1.99 bangles (shown) to the stylish fashions to the whimsical home decor, this store is not to be missed. Even the space is a visual odyssey — it’s a former roller rink now bedecked with chandeliers.
